What is a Therapy Intensive?
A therapy intensive is an accelerated format of therapy that helps clients feel better faster. It lasts a minimum of three hours and may extend over several days. The extended length of the sessions allow for deeper processing and sustained therapeutic momentum. This format allows room to address deeper core wounds or patterns which have prevented forward movement in regular therapy sessions.

What do we work on in an Intensive?
Therapy intensives can be used for any issues you would normally present in a regular therapy session. Therapy intensives help with:
- Processing upsetting events and trauma
- Dissociation
- Emotional Challenges of Substance Use
- Chronic Pain Issues
- Anger Management
Modalities Used for Intensives
Intensives use the same modalities as in regular sessions. Sessions integrate coaching topics too because intensives are private pay and carry no diagnosis. Some modalities are only available for in-person intensives. Some examples of modalities used:
- Somatic Tapping
- Brainspotting
- Guided Meditation
- Inner Active/Oracle/Tarot cards to explore symbolism and meaning
- Emotion Code
- Release of Past Life emotions
- Nature walks
- Outings to practice social skills
Intensives Fees
Weekday rates (Monday through Friday): Fees are $200/hour with a 3 hour minimum.
Weekend rates: (Saturday and Sunday): Fees are $300/hour with a 3 hour minimum.
Combine Your Intensive with a vacation
Mobile, Alabama is located near the beaches of the northern Gulf Coast. Some people choose to have a therapy intensive in the morning and go visit the beaches in the afternoon at either Dauphin Island, the Mississippi coast, or across the bay at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Dauphin Island has the closest beaches about 45 minutes away. Mobile also has many other attractions and events, including cultural museums, art events, and Mardi Gras. Cruise ships also leave from the port of Mobile. For more information on Mobile: click here.
Typically, clients will schedule 1 or 2 intensives in one day, often 2 or 3 days in a row. For example, a client may want a weekend intensive. They may schedule Saturday morning and afternoon for a total of 6 hours of therapy, go to the beach for Saturday night and Sunday morning, and return for a 3 hour session Sunday afternoon. The total weekend intensive in this example is 9 hours.

FAQs
Intensive therapy is an extended therapy session of 3 – 4 hours in length. This allows for more complete processing during the therapy session.
Therapy intensives can be in-person or virtual. Clients report that the ability to leave their environment and go to a different place helps them clear their mind and become more relaxed for the therapy process to take place. Virtual intensive sessions are also very effective.
Therapy sessions are typically shorter than one hour. They may be 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or an hour in length. Intensive therapy sessions are at least 3 hours in length.
A single intensive session is 3 to 4 hours. Short breaks are taken as needed. The session ends after the 3rd or 4th hour. Many people have a second intensive session later in the same day. A longer break is taken of one to two hours before the second intensive session starts. Intensives can last multiple days depending on the goals of the client.
Benefits
Clients who have chosen therapy intensives state they loved the intensive experience and felt they made huge steps forward in processing core events. A single 3 hour intensive will cover 4 to 6 weeks of what individual sessions would cover.
For shorter sessions, many people avoid going in-depth about issues because they say “I don’t want to lose it”. Longer sessions allow for deep processing of an issue and recovery from the processing. Another benefit: no weekly sessions!
Paperwork & Insurance
The client will need to complete a consent for the therapy intensive, the Good Faith Estimate, and an intake describing the goals they would like to work on during the intensive.
Yes, a Good Faith Estimate will be provided with no diagnosis.
Insurance does not pay for therapy intensives. Therapy intensives are private pay only. Insurance will only pay for sessions 53 minutes to 6o minutes. Insurance removed reimbursement for extended sessions for crisis. No other insurance options exist for extended sessions.
No diagnosis is provided for intensive therapy sessions. These blocks of time can be used by the client for traditional therapy or for alternative modalities and coaching topics.
No, Superbills will not be provided for therapy intensives. Insurance does not pay for extended sessions, alternative modalities, or coaching.
Payment for the first 3 hours of intensive work must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the appointment. After each intensive block of time, the amount due for that block will be charged to the client’s account. The client can pay using a debit or credit card or by cash.
